Stretching your travel budget gets that much easier when you know you’ll be saving big on tickets, hotel stays and other package items. How can you be sure? With last minute travel deals.
If you’re willing to consider a variety of destinations, instead of just one or two, there are a rainbow of items to choose from. You’ll find some interesting options just by Googling ‘last minute travel deals.’ But here are some excellent sites to get you started.
Best Websites For Last Minute Travel Deals
Dynamic Travel: Cruises are especially cheap, when you’re willing to take off only a few weeks or a month from now. Not only does Dynamic Travel have a wide-ranging list of ready-to-go cruises, including ship credit and other extra goodies, but it also offers discounts for military and other personnel. (If you’re a teacher, firefighter or policeman, you’ve got the possibility of extra discounts, as well.) Other ideas for saving money on cruises are here.
Hotwire: This travel site gives you great prices on flights, hotel and rental cars — all in one convenient package. And yes, they have last minute travel deal packages and specials.
Priceline: Another excellent site for last minute travel. You can also state your price for plane tickets and such. (You may not get it the first time around, but I’ve been surprised at how often airlines and other customers accept a lowball bid!)
And if your time and energy’s limited? One of the best places for a wide range of ideas is Travelzoo. Their ‘Top 20’ lists, sent out weekly to your e-mail box, have destinations all around the world…at lowball prices. (And they’re not all last-minute, either.)
It’s more difficult to save on last minute travel deals with plane tickets — the price often goes up as your travel time gets closer. (Normally, you’d want to start check months ahead, especially on Tuesday nights or early Wednesday mornings, for the best range of prices and travel times.) Try this — check with a discount airline like Spirit, Air Tran, or a charter airline like Apple Vacations. You’ll have to visit their site directly, rather than go through a discounter like Kayak. (Although it’s a good place to look, too.)
